The Kingstone is the largest mountain in Criozevan and the tallest peak of the Jagged Mountains, which lie entirely within the Nikolem Kingdom. From the outside it looks like an ordinary mountain, apart from its enormous size. At its base is a massive hall where the Golem King sits. He slept there for millions of years before the Crimson Convergence woke him, and he has not left since. The walls of the chamber are covered in thousands of runes. Tunnels branch out from it to the farthest ends of the kingdom, joining the network that links Nikolem’s northernmost mountains to the capital, Suudon. Hidden inside the mountain is a secret rune forge, the most powerful on the continent. Beneath the Kingstone lies Korrite, the nearly indestructible stone from which every Golem is made. It is found nowhere else and is extremely hard to mine, and no one knows how the Golem King mined it in the first place. Its supply is now running out.
The Kingstone is closely protected. Golems guard it, every entrance is hidden, and runes lining its halls stop outsiders from seeing or entering, even if they break through. The only outsiders publicly known to have been inside are the Crimson Knight, founder of the Crimson Rooks and the Golem King’s apprentice, and Fluffy, the ancient being who has known the Golem King since the Dragon Era.
